Remote light switch with remote control for home. Remote switch - main types, principle of operation, photo, installation diagram, step-by-step instructions for connection and setup Remote lighting switching

Continuation of a broad topic in a more specific direction: a switch with a remote control and more.

The so-called touch switch-receiver is installed instead of a conventional switch and allows you to additionally control the light from various transmitters.

In simple words: this device works like a regular switch in a stylish, touch-sensitive design and in addition can be controlled by a remote control or a wireless battery-powered switch. A good option for implementing a pass-through scheme without gating walls or controlling lighting in a private house or garage.

The described device can be purchased in a well-known Chinese store; links to different options are at the end of the publication.

Switch capabilities

These devices are available in three switching capacity options: single-key, two-key and three-key. In terms of aesthetic design, there are two main colors - black and white. In some variations there are models of golden color. The touch panel represents 3 mm. glass and does not pose a risk of electric shock even with wet hands. Installed in a standard round socket box instead of a conventional switch, does not require a neutral wire

. It is not modular, that is, it cannot be installed in a common frame with other switches or sockets. The conclusion follows from this - for normal installation you need a separate seat (socket box), it will not be possible to install several devices in a row.

Each control group (key) is programmed for its own transmitter; a total of 4 devices can be assigned to control one line. When adding more transmitters to one channel, switching on/off becomes unstable.

Two devices are considered as transmitters: a remote control with four buttons (commands) and a wireless battery-powered switch (one, two and three buttons). The transmitters cannot be changed or programmed; each button contains a unique identification digital code. different keys (key fob buttons) to turn the line on and off. In other words, you can bind one key on the key fob so that it turns on the light and another turns it off. Here the possibility of various combinations of several switches (or channels of one) appears.

For example: to turn on a device with 3 lines, you can program 3 key fob buttons to turn on their channel, and turn off all three lighting groups from the 4th key fob button.

The touch zones have unobtrusive backlighting: the switched-off group is highlighted in blue, the switched-on group is highlighted in red. In a well-lit room, the backlight is not visible.

The good news is that when there is a power outage, all breakers are turned off.

Therefore, situations when you come home and the light is on are excluded.

Specifications

It should be noted that the Chinese still like to lie in the technical descriptions of their products. Therefore, you should not rely entirely on this information. In particular, this concerns the maximum load power - it is better not to load devices with loads whose power is close to the maximum specified.

Main technical characteristics of touch switches:

2. Dimensions (w*h*d): 86*86*36 mm.

3. Material: panel - ultra-transparent tempered glass; body - fire-resistant plastic.

4. Load power (per 1 channel): 5-300 W (for energy-saving LDS or LED lamps, the power should not exceed 150 W/channel).

5. Control signal frequency: 433MHz.

6. Operating temperature and air humidity: -20...+70 C; 10-93%.

The dimensions of the receiver switch are the same for both single-key and two- or three-key options.

Wireless transmitter switches also have fixed sizes regardless of the number of groups.

The range of the transmitters is stated to be about 30 m. It is safe to say that the key fob is capable of switching a load at such a distance. However, the responses may be unstable. The signal confidently passes through 1-2 concrete walls in a panel house. Transmitters The radio control uses a transmission standard

RF433

The standard key fob comes with four buttons and is smaller than a matchbox. For it you need to purchase a 12-volt 27A mini-AA battery.

Wireless switches give you more choice. One, two and three-key devices in black or white. One important point: if the “parent” switch-receiver has three control lines, then it does not necessarily have to be controlled by a three-key transmitter. Thanks to the flexible programming system, various options can be realized. For example: a three-key switch is controlled by three one-key transmitters from different places, or several one-key receivers are controlled by one three-key transmitter. Or some light lines are controlled by a key fob. And some lines are controlled by both the switch-transmitter and the key fob.

As we can see, there are many options and you can come up with your own lighting control scheme.

The transmitter switch is powered by two 3V lithium batteries CR2032.

Installation and connection

The receiver switch is installed in a standard manner in a round socket box. Attention: the device does not have spacer legs and cannot be installed in old types of socket boxes without mounting screws.

For normal fastening, holes for mounting screws with a distance of approximately 71 mm are required, located horizontally or vertically.

There is nothing complicated about the electrical connection, and anyone who has ever installed switches can understand the circuit.

A 0.22 µF ballast capacitor is supplied with any receiver - it is recommended to place it in parallel with each lamp or group of lamps. Without a capacitor, energy-saving LDS or LED lamps may flicker when off. For incandescent lamps, a capacitor is not needed.

Programming

After installation, the device begins to work like a regular touch switch. To switch lighting lines over a radio channel, the device must be programmed. Each group (key) is programmed separately, as a separate device.

The pauses between series of “peaks” are very short; during this pause you need to press the desired key on the transmitter (key fob or switch) and the receiver will be programmed for this signal. After the 1st short sound, the selected signal of the transmitter is switched on and off. After 2 short pulses, a signal is set only to inclusion . After 3 beeps, the command is given only to shutdown

. When the switch beeps 4 times, all settings are reset and you need to rebind the transmitters.

Based on experimental data, it became known that for stable operation there is no need to assign more than 4 signals from different devices to one group.

Remote lighting control allows you to create more comfortable conditions. For example, when entering an area where an automatic light control system is installed, there is no need to look for switches in the dark. Also, from the lighting control panel, you can turn on lamps in any room or even abandon switches with an automatic system for turning on devices.

Remote activation

Switching on from a distance can be carried out using various methods, mainly via a remote control. Before you decide to install lighting control from a remote control, you need to understand that there is not always a need to purchase the appropriate equipment. In small apartments there is no need to use a remote control, since a certain lamp turns on only when visiting specific rooms. That is why you should consider whether you need such a system. Remote switching on of lights from a remote control will be effective for apartments with several tiered lamps. For example, if the room has a chandelier, several ceiling and wall lamps, then it is convenient to launch via remote control

. In addition to the main remote control, small key fobs with limited functionality can be used, turning on the light directly at the gate or above the front door. You can install special software on your computer to control lights throughout the house. Remote light control

  • has a number of advantages, in particular:
  • allows you to use electricity more economically;
  • makes the process of starting/switching off lighting devices comfortable;

helps protect your home from thieves due to the effect of presence.

Remote control of home lighting can be done in various ways. A common option is to install a shield. For example, if you don’t need light in a bathhouse or other extension, you can turn it off without leaving the house. Enabling and disabling can be hardware, or a special controller can be used. Some homeowners install and configure equipment in such a way that they can be controlled while sitting at their home computer.

Automatic systems are characterized by increased convenience, since motion sensors are connected to them, allowing you to abandon conventional switches. Once a person enters the room, the light will turn on automatically.

Motion sensors will turn off the lamp even after you leave the room. Photocells will turn on lanterns near the entrance to the house at night, as well as illumination of the entire area. At dawn they will turn off. Also set timers regulating lighting. This move will be useful provided that the person returns home at the same time.

Blocks and controllers

To turn devices on and off while at a distance, several devices are installed and connected. Some of them will be controlled by a person, others will run sensors and other devices.

The automatic control unit is activated by groups of lighting fixtures. It is connected to a specific group of products, and pressing a button signals that power needs to be supplied. There are blocks through which units can be turned on and off using the remote control. Each button of such a device programmable to perform a specific action.

The controller is needed to remotely start the light bulbs. Installation should only be trusted by experienced professionals, otherwise the system will not be effective and will become dangerous for residents.

Sensors and switches

Specialist control sensors are divided into two types:

  • motion sensors;
  • devices for determining the level of illumination.

The equipment operates in automatic mode. Sensors detect thermal radiation, which triggers the lamps. The sensors operate using infrared radiation, which does not pass through various types of obstacles.

Often, homeowners purchase products that are triggered by remote controls that send out infrared radiation. A special remote control starts the lamps. Such switches have strengths:

  • control the light from anywhere in your home;
  • there is software that allows you to control devices via a smartphone;
  • the ability to connect adapters that convert infrared rays into radio frequency ones.

Remote switches can be supplied as motion-sensing sensors or sound-sensing products. The former trigger the light as soon as a person enters the room, and the latter react to individual sounds, for example, clicks or voices. You can forget about searching for the switch and walking across the room to it to turn off the electricity.

Hello, dear readers and guests of the Electrician's Notes website.

We continue to make our apartment “smarter” and more comfortable. Today the next step is to replace the conventional single-key switch with a remote switch with a Sapphire-2503 control panel. This switch is produced by the Nootekhnika company (Minsk, Republic of Belarus). Let me remind you that last time I installed it in my bedroom from the same manufacturer.

If suddenly, one of you is interested in the switch discussed in the article, then you can order it on their official website: noo.com.by. Its price at the time of writing is $16.9 or about 850-870 rubles. Even taking into account the new dollar exchange rate, it will cost you less than similar foreign-made switches, and in terms of quality they are in no way inferior to the latter.

Packaging and appearance.

So, what is interesting about this switch?

Firstly, with the help of Sapphire-2503 you can control the lighting, both manually and remotely, using a remote control. As a control panel (RC), you can use absolutely any remote control that you find in your apartment, even from a TV, even from a music system, even from an air conditioner, the main thing is that it has charged batteries installed. Thus, you can turn the lighting on or off from a distance without getting up from your chair or bed.

Secondly, this switch is also a dimmer, or in other words, a brightness regulator, which significantly extends the service life of halogen and incandescent lamps, if, of course, you still have them installed.

Thirdly, with the help of Sapphire-2503 you can simulate the presence of people in a house or apartment, for example, during your long absence. To implement a similar function, I previously suggested that you use timers, for example, or.

Fourthly, if you suddenly forgot to turn off the lighting in the apartment and went away, for example, to the country for the whole weekend, then after 12 hours Sapphire will turn it off itself - very convenient, isn’t it?

In this article I will tell you about the technical characteristics, principle and operating modes, connection diagram of the Sapphire-2503 remote touch switch, which is intended exclusively for incandescent and halogen lamps.

This is a beige color serial design.

From the color range, in addition to beige, you can choose white, silver or gold. If the standard design does not suit you, then you can choose a common design such as Makel (Mimoza series) or VIKO (Carmen series).

Currently, Nootekhnika has Sapphires not only for incandescent and halogen lamps, but also for compact fluorescent (CFL) and light-emitting diode (LED) lamps. They are marked similarly, only at the end there is the letter “L” - Sapphire-2503-L.

Technical data:

  • voltage 220 (V)
  • maximum power - 400 (W)
  • minimum power - 40 (W)
  • operating temperature from 0ºС to +40ºС

Installation and connection diagram

The Sapphire switch is installed in the same place, in the same socket box, as a regular single-key switch. For information, I recommend reading several articles on the topic:

Appearance of the single-key switch VS10-001 series Etude from Schneider Electric, which I plan to replace with Sapphire-2503.

And here is its connection diagram (more about it):

We observe electrical safety! Before replacing a single-key switch with a remote switch with a Sapphire-2503 remote control, you must turn off the circuit breaker in the panel.

Remove the switch key and unscrew the spacer screws.

Then we disconnect the wires from the switch and remove it from the socket.

There are two wires in the socket box: the phase coming from the apartment panel through the distribution box (according to the diagram, the wire is red) and the switched phase, which goes directly through the junction box to the lamp (according to the diagram, the wire is orange).

Before installing the Sapphire-2503 switch, you need to remove the touch key. It is held on the frame using two latches located on the sides.

The touch key is connected to the switch frame using two wires.

The wires from the frame side are connected to the terminal clamps by soldering.

In Sapphire, to protect the internal circuit from short circuits, a fuse with a rating of 3.15 (A) is installed. The kit includes a backup fuse of the same rating.

To the “phase” terminal we connect the phase from the distribution box (red wire in the diagram), and to the “zero” terminal we connect the switched phase (orange wire in the diagram), which goes to the lamp. One thing is not clear - why are the terminals on Sapphire so incorrectly marked?

For example, for the same dimmer, the terminals are designated as “L-in” input and “L-out” output. And this is more correct, because only the phase is switched through the switch, and not zero. Therefore, until I understood the instructions for Sapphire-2503, such designations initially misled me.

If you have, then you will have to give up controlling two groups of loads, connecting the phases of different groups under one “Zero” terminal.

After connecting, install the Sapphire in the socket box and attach it to two spacer legs.

If you have a modern plastic socket box, then additionally the switch frame can be secured with mounting screws to the socket box. In my case, the socket box is metal, so the fastening is carried out only with spacer legs.

By the way, one of the site’s readers suggested the following - a very interesting option.

Then we insert the touch key back into the frame. The switch is ready for use.

How to use Sapphire-2503

1. Manual light control

To turn on the lighting in the room, you need to touch the switch’s touch button once with your entire palm.

I would like to note that you need to touch with your entire palm, and not with one or two fingers, so at first you had to get used to it. There is no need to apply any force when touching.

To adjust the brightness of the lamp, you need to hold your palm on the switch sensor. The brightness of the lamp will gradually increase and then decrease, and this algorithm will be repeated in a circle. You just need to release your palm when the required brightness is achieved. In this case, the switch will remember this value and the next time it is turned on, the set brightness will be maintained.

There is one negative nuance with the adjustment.

If it is easy to set the maximum brightness value in a dimmer, then with the help of Sapphire it is problematic to do this, or rather, it is difficult to “catch” the maximum value.

By the way, on the front side of Sapphire-2503 there is a red indicator that is constantly lit when the “Imitation” mode is turned off (read about it below), which is very convenient at night.

2. Remote control

As I already wrote at the beginning of the article, absolutely any remote control (RC) from modern household appliances is suitable for remote control of lighting. The main thing is to check the charge level of the batteries in the remote control, otherwise if the charge is low, the switch will not be controlled.

Attention! Remote controls for domestic TVs of 3 or 4 generations may not be suitable.

To turn on the lighting remotely, you need to press and hold any button on the remote control until a sound signal appears. This usually takes about 2-3 seconds.

Thus, we entered the remote control mode (RC) of the switch. Then you need to release and briefly press any button on the remote control (you can use the same one) and the switch will turn the lamp on or off. If before turning on the brightness of the lamp was reduced, then it will turn it on at the same brightness.

To adjust the brightness of the lighting, the steps are similar: first enter the remote control mode, and then hold down any button on the remote control. The brightness of the lamp will gradually increase and then decrease, and this algorithm will be repeated in a circle.

If, after entering the remote control mode, you do not control the lighting for 3 seconds, the switch automatically exits this mode, having previously given a sound signal.

3. Imitation of presence in the house

The Sapphire-2503 remote light switch has a mode for simulating the presence of people in a house or apartment. To enter this mode, you need to turn the lighting on and off 9 times in a row. The pause between controls should not be more than 3 seconds.

When the “Imitation” mode is turned on, the red indicator on the sensor will blink, and the lighting will be controlled automatically in your absence according to an “unknown” programmed algorithm. I have never used this mode before, so I was not able to track the algorithm, and there is no need for this yet.

To disable this mode, you need to turn the lighting on and off 9 times in a row.

4. Automatic lamp shutdown

Another useful feature is automatic lighting shutdown. Let's assume that you forgot to turn off the lights in the room and left the apartment for a long time. So Sapphire-2503 will turn it off itself after 12 hours - very convenient, isn’t it? But I have not yet tested this function in practice.

Experiment

The scope of application of a remote light switch with a remote control is not limited to just lighting control. For one of my friends, based on this switch, I drew up a circuit for automatically opening garage doors. As a load, I installed a contactor that controlled the gate drive. True, now he has to carry the remote control in the car, but it’s convenient. There is one small “but” - with remote control you cannot hear the sound signal of the switch from the car, but this is a matter of skill.

In the meantime, watch a video demonstrating the operating principle of Sapphire-2503:

Addition: read a detailed review about and similar functions as Sapphire-2503.

P.S. Thank you for your attention. I am ready to listen to your questions on the topic of the article. You can also leave your feedback on the operation of Sapphire-2503.

In the era of technological progress, it is not necessary to get up from the sofa or bed to turn on/off the lighting. A remote light switch with a remote control makes it possible to do this anywhere in the room.

  • Principle of operation
  • Additional functions
  • Switch connection diagram
  • Instructions for use

Principle of operation

The process of controlling the switch is carried out using a remote control, the radius of which indoors is approximately 20 m, outdoors - up to 100 m, they come in 2 types:

  1. Equipped with a motion sensor. The device has an infrared port, so the lighting turns on only when there is someone in the room.
  2. Remote switch that senses sound. The device responds to a specific sound or word.

The operating principle is quite simple. There is a steel core inside the coil. It triggers a contact mechanism that connects and opens the power circuit.

After the button is pressed, electric current reaches the power coil. The magnet, in turn, actuates the steel core. Then the mechanism of the device begins its work, which initiates an electrical contact.

Additional functions

The most basic function of the switch is, of course, lighting control. You can turn the light on or off manually or remotely. In the latter case, the control panel is used to turn it on. The remote control for a TV, air conditioner or any other household appliance can be used as a remote control.

The remote switch also allows you to adjust the brightness. This function makes it possible to extend the service life of 2 types of lamps - halogen and incandescent.

The remote control mechanism will help you out when you forget to turn off the lights and you go to another city for a week. After 12 hours, the lighting will automatically turn off.

The remote light switch supports simulation function. After a certain period of time, the lighting fixture in the room will turn on and off. This is a good opportunity to deceive unexpected guests.

Switch connection diagram

To save time, a light switch with a remote control can be mounted in the same place where a regular switch was installed.

Before you start changing devices, first turn off the machine on the panel. Next, remove the button of the old light switch and unscrew the spacer screws. After this, disconnect the mechanism from the electrical wires and from the socket box.

In the next step you will see 2 wires:

  1. phase, the “route” of which runs from the panel to the distribution box;
  2. the phase that goes to the lamp through the same junction box.

Before directly installing the light switch, be sure to remove the sensor from it. It is fixed to the frame using 2 side latches. The frame is connected by 2 wires to the touch key. And the wires that are located on the side of the frame must be connected to the terminal clamps by soldering.

To save on electricity bills, our readers recommend the Electricity Saving Box. Monthly payments will be 30-50% less than they were before using the saver. It removes the reactive component from the network, resulting in a reduction in load and, as a consequence, current consumption. Electrical appliances consume less electricity and costs are reduced.

At the next stage, the phase from the apartment panel must be connected to the “phase” terminal, and the phase going to the lamp to the “zero” terminal.

For those who have installed a modern type socket box, we advise you to secure the frame with mounting screws.

Now all that remains is to insert the sensor into the frame and turn on the machine on the dashboard. At this point, the light switch is ready for use.

Remote models, which are designed to work with LED or energy-saving lamps, are connected a little differently. Such devices should be installed closer to the lighting source. In addition, the safe operation of these switches is impossible without the presence of phase and zero.

Some owners prefer to install lighting mechanisms with remote control under plasterboard or suspended ceilings. As a rule, the mechanism is mounted between the installed and the main wall.

For lighting in yards, radio-controlled remote models are most often used. They can turn on/off not one, but several lighting sources at once. Remote control is possible up to 100 m.

If you are planning to install a voice control mechanism, we warn you that it should be mounted near lighting sources. The installation can also be performed in place of the old device, but there must be an additional power cable there.

Instructions for use

You can manage devices in 2 ways:

  1. in manual mode;
  2. remote control mode.

In the first case, the user needs to touch the sensor button with the entire palm, and not with 2-3 fingers. To turn on the lighting, the user must apply minimal effort.

To increase or decrease the brightness, you need to hold your palm on the switch. The brightness of the light will slowly increase and then decrease. Then everything is repeated in a circle.

Almost any remote control can be used for remote control. Before use, ensure that the batteries have sufficient charge for use.

To turn on the lighting in the room, press a button on the remote control and hold it until you hear a sound. This will enter remote control mode. After pressing any of the buttons again, you will turn on the lights in the room. To turn off the lights in remote control mode, you need to press a button again.

The brightness control process is carried out in the same way. First, the user holds down any key on the remote control to access the remote control. When he hears the sound, he presses the button and holds it. The brightness will slowly increase and then decrease. After turning off, the brightness level remains at the same level.

To switch to simulation mode, press any button on the remote control several times in a row (usually 9). Exiting this mode is carried out in a similar way.

What to do if you want to install new light switches in your apartment, the renovation of which was completed a long time ago. At the same time, I absolutely don’t want to re-drill the walls, remove suspended ceilings, lay new wiring, socket boxes, etc. Is there a way out in this situation?

There is, and it’s absolutely inexpensive. All costs can cost you between 500-1000 rubles. At the same time, you won’t spend a penny on new wires and won’t cut through a single extra centimeter of the walls.

Application of wireless switches

Remote switches will help in this matter. They work by transmitting a signal over a radio channel at a frequency of 315 MHz or 433.92 MHz. Most key fobs for opening garage doors, barriers, and car alarms operate at a frequency of 433 MHz. In principle, you can program the executive unit of the device for such a key fob and control the lighting from it.

In fact, you are buying a ready-made solution and installation costs are minimal. They come in single-key, two- and three-key types.

The switches themselves can be mounted on the wall in two ways:

  • for self-tapping screws into an existing socket box

The most important component of the remote switch is the power radio module. It is no larger than a matchbox.

Thanks to this, you can place it anywhere - in junction boxes, behind a chandelier cap where the wires are connected, behind a suspended ceiling, etc.

You can also install it inside the old one, taking out all the “gibles” from there.

But most often they are installed in the chandelier cap, since there is plenty of space there.

A voltage of 220 Volts is supplied to the radio module and transmitted to the lamps through its contacts and relays.

You can easily attach several switches to one module - one, two, three, four, it doesn’t matter.

You will be able to control the lighting not only from 3 points, but also from anywhere in your house or apartment.

To create such a circuit using simple pass-through switches, you will have to pull a bunch of extra wires, and also buy another type - changeover or crossover. Read more about this in the article – “”

You can also attach a remote control or key fob to the device. And then, to control the lighting in the house, you won’t even need to go to the switches and press them.

You can lie quietly on the bed, put the keychain on the nightstand and turn off the light without getting out of bed.

If you want to use a remote switch to connect street lighting, it is advisable to use the radio module as an intermediate link, through a contactor.

Since the power of street lamps is many times greater than that of indoor light bulbs.

Remote switch design

The switch is very easy to disassemble. It is enough to use a screwdriver to pry out the slots at the junction of the cover and the body. There is no need to unscrew any screws.

Inside it is:

  • central on/off button
  • LED for visualizing the connection between the switch and the radio module

This battery, even with intensive use, can last 2 years or more. In addition, there is no particular shortage of them at the moment. It may not be included in the package, please keep in mind.

By the way, the switch is initially universal. On the sides of the central button, there are places where you can solder two additional buttons.

And by changing the key itself, you can easily change from a single-key to a two- or even three-key one.

True, in this case you will have to add more modules, according to the number of buttons.

There is a hole on the radio module box. It is intended for a button, when clicked, you can “bind” or “erase the binding” of a particular device.

In terms of radio signal range, the manufacturer claims a distance from 20 to 100 meters. But this applies more to open spaces. From practice, we can say that in a panel house the signal easily penetrates four concrete walls at a distance of 15-20 meters.

There is a 5A fuse installed inside the box. Although the manufacturer indicates that through a remote switch you can connect a load of 10A, which is as much as 2kW!

The diagram for connecting wires to the contacts of the radio module of the wireless switch is as follows:

When connecting, you can also navigate by the labels. Where there are three terminals there is an output, where there are two terminals there is an input.

  • L out – phase output
  • N out – zero output

Connect the wiring to the light bulb to these contacts. Supply voltage 220V to the two contacts on the other side.

On the side of the output contacts there are three more points for soldering jumpers. By re-soldering them accordingly (as in the figure), you can change the logic of the product:

When the key is pressed, the relay contacts close. When released it will turn off.

This can be used to make a call or to give a short-term signal of some kind. There is also a middle contact "B". When using it, the switch will operate in inverse mode.

Connecting and binding (programming) a remote switch

As mentioned earlier, connecting the 220V power wires and the output wires to the light bulb in the radio module can be done directly in the distribution box, if space allows. Or in the lamp itself under the ceiling.

Moreover, the main thing is to connect zero and phase to the input, and sometimes it is enough to connect only the phase conductor to the output (zero goes directly).

When you first apply voltage, nothing may happen, no matter how many times you press the key. Because there is no connection. In order to program a remote switch to the receiver module, perform the following operations:

  • press the central button on the radio module and wait until the LED starts blinking quickly

If the binding is correct, after pressing the key, a characteristic click of the switch will be heard. The LED in the box will be constantly on. Next press will turn off.
