Corner for tiles: current decoration (22 photos). How to cover corners on tiled walls? – Solutions What corner corners are needed for tiles

In almost every home, rooms such as the bathroom, toilet and kitchen are finished with ceramic tiles, which are not easy to install correctly, but quite possible. It is imperative to use a special trim to make the inner corner and outer corners when installing the canvas. Only in this way can you achieve excellent results and an aesthetic appearance of the room.

In this case, we are talking about special corners for tiles, which are easy and simple to work with, and you do not need to take a special course to learn how to use the item.

Laying tiles in an apartment can be carried out:

  • With the help of a master;
  • For master courses;
  • On one's own.

In any case, it is necessary to adhere to technology and recommendations that will help to decorate the surface of the walls correctly and without flaws. It is worth noting that even specialists may have difficulties when it comes to joining the corner of wall or floor tiles. Today, there are a number of devices that can significantly simplify the process of installing fabrics such as tiles.

Corners for tiles are a long product that allows you to make a perfectly even joint on the tiles.

Also, with the help of such devices, defects on the canvas are removed if they were formed when cutting the material. On average, the length of the corner is 250 cm. The joining corner allows you to complete the repair, making an even coating, and the room will look more elegant.

The tiled corner is divided into types, the choice of which depends on what kind of corner needs to be made, in particular internal or external. It is worth noting that sometimes it is necessary to edge a corner, mainly an external one, where a tile such as Kabanchik is joined on a strongly protruding corner. This is required to strengthen it and prevent the formation of defects due to mechanical stress at the edges of the canvases.

The greater the strength, the longer the service life, and therefore this should be taken care of at the installation stage. In addition, if you make joints using a special corner, they will be safer, which is especially important if there are children in the house. In this case, you can prevent them from colliding with the sharp edges of the tiles. According to the material, tile trim can be metal or plastic. They are also divided into horizontal and vertical.

Features of working with external and internal corners for tiles

The corner layout of tiles should be carried out only with the help of a corner, which must be smooth, high-quality and specially selected. Before installing tiles in a room, you should pay attention to what type of ceiling will be installed. Depending on this, you can save on tiles, since less of it will be needed, and besides, the corner must be installed clearly to the level of the ceiling covering. Trimming the tiled corner is carried out even before it is installed, especially if we are talking about a metal sheet.

Now you can find trims on sale:

  • With various colors;
  • Various lengths;
  • Various types and configurations.

It is especially convenient to use colored products if you plan to lay out colored tiles. To choose the best shade, you should buy a corner with the material right away or just take the tiles with you.

As already noted, tiled trim can be external and external, as well as plastic and metal. The choice of such materials is simply huge and there will be no problems with choosing a suitable canvas. However, it is not uncommon for beginners in finishing work to encounter difficulties in purchasing corners. The difference between the products is not too big, but still there.

A metal corner is more durable than a plastic one, and therefore the cost of the metal sheet is a little more expensive.

Metal trim has other advantages and they come in different colors. For example, modern designers consider it very stylish to install corners on tiles with chrome or gold plating. This is how you can not only decorate, but also transform a room.

How to choose a corner for tiles

Installing decorative plastic corners is much easier. Cutting them is not difficult and you can use the most ordinary tool, for example, a knife or even ordinary scissors. Even a non-professional can select and place a plastic corner, and the length of such a strip will be 250 cm. To be more precise, the canvas is made of polyvinyl chloride.

This is the cheapest and most practical option for the bathroom, because:

  • He is not afraid of fungus;
  • It is not expensive at all;
  • Bacteria do not accumulate or spread on its surface;
  • He is not afraid of exposure to chemical bathroom cleaning products.

You can make a corner of absolutely any material and not worry about water getting under it and causing mold to form, since the cladding is carried out as tightly as possible, and all joints are sealed with special compounds. Some people believe that sealing joints using a corner may not be necessary, but it is better to avoid this mistake, as it can cause a lot of problems. Installation will not require much effort and time, and in return you can get a lot of benefits. In particular, increasing the service life of coatings on walls and floors in the bathroom.

To close the corners between the tiles, you will need not just to buy a corner, but to select it according to the material, choose the desired color, and become familiar with how to attach it.

In general, the choice of tiled corner is made in relation to the thickness of the canvases installed in the room. Canvases are available for sale, the thickness of which varies from 6-12 numbers. It is based on such data that the choice of material is made. Experts recommend choosing a corner with a number such that the thickness of the opening in the trim is 1 mm greater than that of the tile. Accordingly, if you are laying tiles with a thickness of 9 mm, then you need to choose trim number 10.

Before gluing a product, you must, of course, purchase it and select it as competently as possible. To be more precise, in order not to purchase excess fabric, you need to accurately calculate the length of the corners that need to be sealed. You definitely need to have 1-2 spare trims in stock. Due to the fact that their cost is not too high, the stock will not require significant financial costs. External and external joints must be calculated separately, so as not to mistakenly acquire all the corners of the same type.

How to correctly and accurately lay tiles in corners

The process of laying tiles and corners requires adherence to technology, accuracy and maximum precision. Disputes often flare up among craftsmen about how exactly a room should be decorated. In other words, what needs to be done first, for example, glue the tiles or install a corner, and then install the tile sheets.

In addition, there is controversy about how to check the evenness of the laid out corner. In general, the process is carried out only using a building level, however, if you first install the corner and then lay the tiles, the evenness of the corner will be disrupted.

That is why it is considered the ideal technology to first lay out the tiles, and only then adjust the corner to fit it.

There are corners that are installed not together with the tiles, but on top of them. Such corners differ from trims, and the method is considered the simplest, but it is only a cladding, and not part of the masonry. When installing tiles, you need to pay special attention to marking and cutting the tiles if adjustment is required.

How professionally this moment will be performed directly depends on:

  • Service life of the coating;
  • Its aesthetics;
  • Safety during operation.

If you need to mark an angle of 45 degrees, then it is permissible to use the most ordinary triangle, and it is also advisable to remember some data from geometry to ensure the accuracy of the calculations. It is not enough to check the evenness of laying the first row of tiles, since you need to constantly apply a level so that the correctness of the laying does not go astray, which will affect the appearance and proper installation. It is unlikely that skewed masonry will be able to satisfy the idea of finishing.

Trimming tiles at 45 degrees (video)

As soon as all the installation work has been completed and the mortar on which the tiles were installed has dried, which takes an average of 24 hours, you need to begin inspecting the coating for flaws and defects. If they are not significant, for example, glue is protruding, or a corner is slightly misaligned, then correcting them is not too difficult. If you follow the instructions for carrying out the work and do not violate the recommendations of specialists, then you can install the tiles and trims correctly, beautifully and without mistakes.

There are several finishing materials that no serious renovation of an apartment can be done without. You can do without a laminate floor or suspended ceiling, but I have never seen a renovation without laying tiles. As a rule, a specialist is hired to lay tiles, but there are those who are not afraid of any work and do it themselves. In any case, it will not hurt anyone to have an idea about the repair work. I wrote several articles on the blog about laying tiles (links to them at the end of the article). The topic of this article is laying tiles in corners.

Laying tiles in corners, or more precisely, connecting tiles at the outer corners of a room, can be done in several ways.

  1. Using a trim corner (profile) for tiles.
  2. Simple joining followed by grouting.
  3. Edge cut at 45°.

Using a trimmer when laying tiles

Trim-special plastic or metal profile, covering the ends of the tiles when connecting at the outer and inner corners of the installation.

The modern market offers a large selection of corners for trim tiles. Trims are available in plastic, aluminum, chrome, various colors and sizes.

You need to buy a corner for trim tiles according to the thickness of the tiles that you plan to lay. As a rule, this is 7,9,11 mm.

The corner for trim tiles is laid as follows

Finish tiling one entire wall in the room.

Cut the trim corner to the desired height. (It’s worth going into more detail here)

The bathroom renovation is completed with the installation of a slatted ceiling. The slatted ceiling (Read two articles) is laid around the perimeter of the bathtub on an aluminum profile corner. In the corners of the bathroom, the corners should fit neatly together.

I made this digression to make it clear. The trim that you lay along with the tiles in the corners should (ideally) rest against the aluminum corner profile of the slatted ceiling. It is this length that you will have to measure out and cut the corner for the trim tile along it.

Before installing the trim tile corner, you need to apply silicone sealant to the corner. To work with sealant in tubes, use a mounting gun.

Trim has two corners. One corner of the trim has a flat side (1), the other side of the trim has a groove for tiles (2). (Look at the photo)

  • The straight side of the trimmer is applied to the laid tile; the tiles of the other wall will be inserted into the groove.
  • Lubricate the prepared corner for trim tiles in several places with sealant and strictly vertically (use a building level) apply the trim to the finished wall.
  • Next, lay the second wall starting from the bottom. Insert the edge of the tile into the groove of the trim corner.
  • When grouting the tile joints, the contact seams between the trim and the tiles are also grouted.
  • Tiles with trim are also laid in horizontal corners.

Simple laying of tiles in corners, followed by grouting

There is nothing complicated about this tile laying technique. The tiles are laid in such a way that the visible or most noticeable tiles of one corner cover the edges of the tiles of the perpendicular wall.

Cutting the edge of the tile at an angle of 45°.

Laying tiles in corners with the edges of the tiles cut at an angle of 45° on a machine is the most labor-intensive process. To perform this you will need a tile cutting machine with a rotating bed (read about tools for tiles). The following is an article based on the photo.

Start the machine (don't forget to pour water into the machine tray to cool the cutting line). Hand cut the tile at a 45° angle. With a good disc, the undercut will be smooth, almost factory-made.

A tile cutting machine allows you to cut tiles at any desired angle.

When laying tiles, the corner looks like in the photo.

The seams are grouted after all the tiles are completely laid, after 24 hours.

That's all! Good luck in your endeavors!

Especially for the site:

Today I'll show you how to install decorative tile corners on an exterior tile corner. In my opinion, this design of corners makes them not only more beautiful, but also safer to use. I advise installing external decorative corners on all protruding corners and partitions that could be potentially hazardous.

Framing a single slope

We will start by framing a single slope. We chose a silver plastic corner. When choosing, it is important to consider the height of the corner cavity. It is better to purchase a corner into which the tiles will extend slightly.

For example, with a tile thickness of 8 millimeters, the height of the corner cavity should be 9 mm. In this case, the corner can cover the unevenness of the tile or its cut edge.

I note that this is not the only way to join a corner and a tile, but this is what I use.

Let's lay the corner and tile dry. The inner side of the slope will also be framed with tiles, but this tile will approach the corner from the other side.

When I have glued all the tiles on the inside of the slope, I will place the corner exactly to their end.

There is a small recess on the back of the corner, and it hides the edge of the end tile. So I set the corner to its entire height. I will make the necessary trimming at the top.

Since this wall is made of gypsum fiber, I temporarily secured the decorative corner with self-tapping screws. The corner of the doorway will also be framed from above, so I filed the corners at 45 degrees.

I draw your attention to the fact that this must be done very precisely. How to file a corner at 45 degrees? Well, of course, you need to use a miter box for this. It already contains the 45 degree angles we need.

File the corners with a hacksaw. Unlike metal ones, I file plastic corners with a blade without a hacksaw - this makes it easier for me to control the pressure and make a neat cut.

Let's return to our corner. Let's put the tile on the other side and see how it looks.

As you can see, the tile has slightly gone into the corner.

The corner will not only protect the tile from chipping, but will also allow you to hide the cut part there if necessary, and such situations do happen, and I will talk about them a little later.

Now let’s mark the attached tile for cutting. We draw the cutting line so as to take into account one tile seam.

I cut the tile according to the design and am ready to put it in the corner, but if I try to put it with the cut edge, then I am in for a surprise - the tile cannot fit into the corner like before when I inserted it with the factory edge. In addition, because of this, the tile joint narrows, for which I left space. The reason is that the width of the edge of the tile in the cut part is greater than that from the factory edge. And this is easy to check if you insert the tile as we originally measured. In this case, we will get the required joint between the tiles.

What should we do to hide the cut edge of the tile? And to do this, we will put a mark on its upper part at the width of the corner. At this mark, we must slightly cut off the back surface of the tile, in other words, make this edge a little narrower.

I use a block of sandpaper for these purposes. It is enough to remove 1-2 millimeters. After this treatment, the cut edge will go deeper into the corner and hide its imperfections.

Gluing corners and tiles

Now you can start gluing the corner and tiles. First, I apply a small amount of glue into the slots in the corner.

Using a spatula, I carefully press the glue. Please note that there should not be any excess glue on the corner.

Before gluing the tiles, I make sure there is no excess adhesive on the corner. The excess can be safely removed so that it does not prevent the tile from going inside the corner.

Now I carefully glue the tiles. First you need to move it forward a little so that it fits into the corner. Then I press the tile tightly against the wall, and don’t forget to place spacer crosses underneath.

I'll check how tightly the corner is pressed to the end tile. The second row of tiles is installed, and its cut edge is securely closed.

This is what a decorative corner looks like with pressed tiles.

I did the same on the other side of this ledge. Here, too, the outer corner of the tile is decorated.

All subsequent tiles are installed in the corner according to the same scenario.

As I climb up, I unscrew the screws that held the corner.

To ensure the drying time, you can tighten the corner of the tile using tape.

This is how decorative corners are laid out carefully and slowly, protected by a decorative corner.

Double slope framing

Now let’s look at the features of framing the corners of a double slope. I'll show this on the end of the shower screen. First of all, the walls of the partition must be made strictly at right angles. This check over the entire height must be done using a square.

For the left and right sides, cut out decorative corners of the desired height. We press each corner with its indentation against the side wall. Using tape, we temporarily fix it in this position. We do the same for the second corner.

Once the corners are secured, you can start tiling. The end of the slope is primed. And I cut out a template from the tiles that will be installed between the corners in this way.

Here the tile should fit slightly into the corner on both sides, so from the side of the cut edge I initially ground the back side of the tile.

Let's start laying the tiles. First, I coat the holes in the corners.

This does not require a large amount of glue, but all holes in the corners must be covered. The space between the corners must also be leveled with glue.

Now we install the first template tile. Let me remind you once again that on the reverse side I slightly sharpened the back of the tile so that it fits easily into the corner. To be fair, I will say that you don’t have to do this, and install the tiles without inserting them into the corner, but align them along its edge. Personally, I prefer the first option.

Now let's get started with gluing the tiles. Here you will have to apply glue to the tiles. It should be a little more liquid than usual - this will make it more convenient to position these pieces. Next, a notched trowel and grooves. This is already familiar to us.

Carefully apply the tile to the end of the partition. In this case, the corners will diverge a little.

Let's install distance crosses.

Now let’s firmly press the tile against the wall, and the corners against the tile on both sides. Exposed glue must be removed. When installing the first template, you must carefully monitor the divergence of the corners and prevent it. If there are no side gaps, grab this entire structure with tape.

We continue to apply glue and seal the holes in the corners. Use glue to smooth the gap between the corners. We prepare the next tile template using the same scenario. And again a serrated trowel with a tooth of 6 millimeters. We apply the second tile. If necessary, we spread the corner a little. We press the tile and bring the corners together tightly. If everything is done correctly, then there should be no gaps in these places. Let's install a remote cross here too, one is enough.

I prefer to remove excess glue immediately. We fix this part while it dries.

So we installed several tiles on the end. I pay special attention to the tight fit of the corner to both sides of the partition.

To glue the last tile, you need to remove the temporary tape at the top. We have one last step left.

In this form, we leave the end of the partition for a day to dry.

If the preparatory work was done correctly, the corner will look perfect.

Don’t forget to also check the convergence of the seams and, if necessary, correct it somehow.

After jointing, the seams in this place look like this.

The tight fit of the corner makes the design visually complete and beautiful. We have finished installing the decorative corners in this bathroom and as you can see the results are nice.

Despite its declining popularity, the plastic corner still has many fans. Mainly due to the simplicity of the corner design. And if the color of the corner and the tile completely match, this can be considered a good solution. But the colors of plastic are not as abundant as those of ceramics. Tiles of the same color can have many shades. Even from different batches of the same tiles. A plastic corner has a maximum of 2-3 shades for one color. The discrepancy in the color of the outer corner and the tiles disrupts the visual picture. This can be considered one of the disadvantages of this method.

The shade of the plastic corner does not match the tile

How to choose the size of the corner.

The beauty of an external corner depends largely on proper installation and the correct size. The corner must be selected according to the thickness of the tile. The tile should fit into the corner, and the plastic should not stick out above the surface of the cladding. The “x” height can have several values. It is possible to select the profile you need for a specific tile.

Dependence of the size of the outer corner on the thickness of the tile

There is one nuance at this point. When purchasing a corner, you need to know whether the tiles on the corner will be whole or cut. The difference in thickness between the edge and the middle of the tile (in some specimens) reaches 1.5-2 mm. If you select an outer corner for a whole tile, but you have to join the cut edge, the end of the tile may not close. Such moments can be frequent. After all, an irreplaceable advantage of a plastic corner is the ability to hide the cut part of the tile.

How to install an outer corner.

A flaw in the design of the plastic corner is a small covering protrusion. It is no more than one mm. This protrusion covers the end of the tile on one side of the corner. On the second side of the corner, the tile fits into the profile after installing the corner.

For this reason, the tiles on the corner must be aligned with a wedge. Otherwise, the corner will not fit tightly and cracks will appear. In case of large deviation, the edges of the tiles can be straightened or cut along the line, as in our case.

Leveling the slope for installing a corner

Installation of plastic occurs during laying of tiles on coal. To do this, one side of the corner must be laid out. A corner is rubbed onto it using tile adhesive. The glue fits into the slots in the plastic and holds it in place. Excess glue must be removed. It will give thickness. And the tile will stick out above the corner if it is chosen correctly.

Removing excess glue from a plastic profile

The second tile will cover the plastic ledge and finally secure the corner to the wall.
