How to replace the plumbing in the apartment. Replacing pipes in the bathroom - steps from A to Z. Possible problems and solutions

You should start right away with the fact that the replacement of the water supply must be carried out completely. Some, due to financial difficulties, are trying to change individual sites. However, this is wrong, and if the decision to replace has already been made, then work will have to be done on the entire water supply system.

So, replacing the plumbing, regardless of the amount of work, requires some tools. In addition, you should carefully consider the choice of material for plumbing. Replacing water supply pipes can be done with pipes made of different materials. However, each has its own scope.

  • In the case when the replacement of water pipes is hidden, it is best to use polypropylene pipes, which are reinforced with fiberglass;
  • Today, metal-plastic pipes are very widespread, but the metal age is already over. However, the best at the moment of all pipes for hot water supply are polypropylene. They are better than metal-plastic ones in that the latter, with repeated repetition of the change in temperature regime, become unusable;
  • As for the connections, they must be made by hand in accessible places, so that in the event of an accident they can be very easily reached and repaired;
  • Replacement of water pipes in the apartment should be accompanied by the replacement of valves. You need to choose only those taps that have a ball mechanism;
  • As for pipes, only those that are suitable for its characteristics should be used for plumbing. For example, the temperature of the incoming water in the apartment, the quality of this water, the availability of material resources;
  • As already mentioned, for hot water supply, polypropylene products are the best option. They are able to withstand media temperatures up to 80 degrees, while being easy to operate and have an optimal price / quality ratio.

Advice! When choosing plastic pipes, special attention should be paid to their marking, since there is a type of product that is intended only for cold water supply systems.

  • Replacing the plumbing in the house with your own hands is often done because the old water supply system could not provide consumers with normal pressure. There can be many reasons for this. In order to ensure normal pressure even with very low pressure in the system, a device such as a booster pump is introduced into the new circuit;
  • To purify water, it is necessary to install special filters. They can be part of the risers, or displayed separately. I must say that coarse filters are more suitable for risers, which will rid the water of sand, rust and similar impurities. As for thinner filters, they are placed directly under the tap.

In addition to all the listed materials, numerous rubber gaskets will be needed. And you may also need special fasteners for drains and horizontal pipes.

Preparing for the installation of a new plumbing

I must say right away that replacing the plumbing in a house or apartment with your own hands begins with the preparation of a plan.

To do this, a diagram is drawn in which all sizes of risers, all sizes of horizontally laid sections, and the number of connecting elements will be indicated. When specifying risers, it is necessary not to forget about the presence of a filter, if it is planned to install it, and so on.

Advice! When buying, you should not be guided by the figure that turned out during the calculations, but by 5% more.

Indeed, the replacement of water supply risers, as well as the replacement of other parts of the water supply, is always accompanied by some loss of material, so the stock must be mandatory.

When polypropylene pipes are purchased in the right quantity, it is necessary to purchase all additional elements, that is, fittings, couplings, adapters, taps, and so on.

Removing the old plumbing

It is clear that in order to install new water pipes, it is necessary to remove the old ones. If we are talking about a house with an autonomous water supply, then all the elements of the water supply can simply be removed separately.

If we are talking about an apartment building, then first you need to turn off the water.

Especially for this purpose, cranes are installed at the entrance, as a rule, in the design of risers.

They need to be completely covered. Naturally, both taps must be turned off both from the cold water supply system and from the hot one.

After shutting off, check the plumbing system for leaks. You just need to turn on the water. If at least from any tap water continues to drip, then it is necessary to call the plumbing team to change the valves.

In this case, the replacement must be carried out by them, since they have the right to turn off the water in the entire house or in its separate circuit in order to carry out the work.
After the replacement of the shut-off valves has been completed, you can begin to dismantle the old water supply.

It all starts with the dismantling of risers in the apartment. If there are several, then they are removed one by one.

In the case when the old pipeline was made of metal pipes, it is most convenient to install them using a grinder.

In those places where polypropylene pipes will be attached, metal pipes must be unscrewed.

This may require a torch and an adjustable wrench. When all the elements of the old water supply system are cut down, and the remains of the risers are unscrewed, the water pipes can be replaced.

Riser replacement

Installation of water supply risers in an apartment building begins with the fact that they are screwed into the old connector or screwed onto it. If we are talking about a private house, then the replacement of water supply risers is carried out along with the replacement of water supply parts that are outside.

Advice! When choosing pipes for risers, it is better to focus on the diameter of the old ones, since all the necessary holes in the walls or floor have already been made for them in the house.

Unlike new buildings, where replacement of pipes in the bathroom and toilet may be required only in an emergency, in older houses this procedure is usually planned in advance. After many years of operation, the steel pipes installed in them are subject to a complete renovation (replacement with modern types and samples).

If you have the right tool, as well as some experience in handling elements of the plumbing industry, anyone who wishes can do the replacement of pipes on their own.

Upgrading pipes in a city apartment is more often due to the following reasons:

  • Water supply or sewerage pipes are heavily clogged with rust, which is typical for outdated samples with an untreated anti-corrosion coating on the inner surface.
  • In a situation where it is planned to replace old pipes made of cast iron or steel with new plastic ones.
  • In case of breaks and leaks due to wear of the pipe system or its erroneous installation.

The need for this also arises during work related to the redevelopment of the bathroom and the accompanying replacement of the entire wiring.

Preparation for work

Before you replace the pipes in the bathroom and start repairs in the apartment, you should correctly assess the amount of work and draw up a plan of operations. It should include the following items:

  • Drawing up a wiring diagram, according to which pipes in the toilet and bathroom should be replaced.
  • Preparation of necessary materials and tools.
  • Dismantling worn-out old communications.
  • Installation of a new system in accordance with the prepared wiring diagram.

The scheme prepared during the evaluation of the upcoming work may differ significantly from the existing configuration of the pipelines.

Shortly before replacing pipes in an apartment, you need to familiarize yourself with the main types of wiring that are often used in residential buildings.

Wiring types

In accordance with the order of connection, pipe laying methods are reduced to two options:

  • Serial wiring (it is also called "tee"), related to the simplest circuit solutions. During its arrangement, two main pipes with hot and cold water depart from the riser, from which branches are then made by means of special tees to individual consumers.

A sequential pipe laying scheme does not require special costs from the contractor, is easy to install, and is also highly maintainable.

  • In the collector version, individual pipes with valves are connected to each of the plumbing fixtures individually. This solution is much more complicated than the previous one and requires significant labor costs.

Before changing the pipes in the bathroom, for example, you should know that, according to their location relative to the surface of the walls, the wiring diagrams can be open or closed. The first of them is implemented by laying directly on the surface of the room.

Despite the obvious simplicity of this method, it does not always suit those users who would not want to spoil the look of the bathroom or toilet with pipe elements sticking out from everywhere.

In this case, a scheme is chosen for the secret laying of pipes, securely hidden in the thickness of the walls. This method allows not only to preserve the external aesthetics of auxiliary premises (including a bathroom), but also to expand the space.

The absence of pipes on the walls will allow you to place small hanging shelves and cabinets on them without interference.

The disadvantages of this laying method include high labor costs associated with the need to prepare special grooves (strobes) that are equipped in the floor screed or in the walls. Due to the hidden location of the pipes, along with an increase in aesthetics, the conditions for the repair and maintenance of the water supply network are deteriorating.

The final choice of a specific type of wiring for an apartment is determined by the tasks assigned to a particular contractor.

Material selection

In addition to the wiring diagram, you will need to select the materials from which the new pipes are made. Their range is large, so you can choose any model from the following range:

  • Pipes galvanized or metal.
  • Cast iron.
  • Copper, metal-plastic and plastic (polypropylene) pipe samples.

Galvanized and cast iron pipes are gradually being phased out, increasingly giving way to lighter and more practical plastic.

Unlike relatively expensive copper and metal-plastic pipes, polypropylene pipes are very cheap and easy to install with your own hands. In addition, they are no less resistant to corrosion and aggressive environments than reinforced and copper.

Self-replacement procedure

Self-installation and replacement of pipelines in an apartment is a rather laborious task, requiring technical equipment and skills. Due to personal participation in the renovation of the pipe industry, it is possible to save on costs and carefully control the entire process.

Plumbing renovation

Water pipes made in the last century now look ugly and do not inspire confidence. To prevent final wear that could cause a serious accident, they need to be urgently updated.

Therefore, replacing pipes in a bathroom or toilet with polypropylene products is a paramount task for any caring owner.

Work on their updating is usually carried out in the following sequence:

  • First, a diagram of the future pipeline is prepared, in the preparation of which it is sometimes possible to provide for their more rational laying.
  • Then you need to draw on the wall with chalk the route of the updated water supply and make a calculation of the necessary pipe material with a small margin.
  • It is also necessary to calculate the total number of fittings and adapters for docking.
  • When pipes and fittings are purchased, you can begin to dismantle the old ones. To do this, you must first turn off the water supply valves located on the water supply risers.
  • Then you will need to disassemble the threaded coupling that connects the entire plumbing system of the apartment to the valve on the common riser. Upon completion of this operation, the old pipes in full force are simply cut out by the grinder and taken out into the trash.
  • After freeing up space, they proceed to the main operations for laying polypropylene pipes (they are laid from the valve of this branch towards the collector comb).

When choosing a sequential scheme, the tap from the tap is made towards the nearest tee.

To arrange the joints of polypropylene products, special couplings of the same structure are used. And to articulate them together, you will need a special welding device that works on the principle of a heating soldering iron.

When using it, the articulated pipe and the coupling are simply put on both sides of the thermal nozzle, and after it is heated, they are pressed into one another. Upon completion of the design of all the joints in the scheme, it remains only to connect the pipes to the fittings of the risers of both inputs.

Sewer replacement

Updating the sewer, usually carried out along with the change of the water supply, will require a lot of time and money. The only advantage in this case is the ease of assembly of drain pipes, joined by means of socket connections using special sealing rings.

The order of work carried out when replacing the sewer system implies the following mandatory operations:

  • First of all, we change the siphons under the sinks. Then it is necessary to calculate the mounting slope of the pipe sections connecting them to the riser.

It depends on the difference in height between the joining points of these elements, one of which is located directly under the siphon, and the second - in the tee on the fan riser.

The level difference directly depends on the length of the installed pipes. With average dimensions of runs for products with a diameter of 50 mm, the angle of inclination will be 2-3 cm per linear meter.

  • Upon completion of this operation, it is required to mark the route for laying new pipes and proceed with the dismantling of the old ones (do not forget to block the fan riser first).

It is more convenient to do this by installing a pneumatic plug inserted into the end of the revision (it isolates the collection channel from its neighbors).

  • At the next step, the check is carefully removed from the central tee - a prefabricated unit for the entire apartment sewer, and the old pipes are dismantled.
  • To do this, they are simply smashed with a hammer, and the remains, along with the garbage, are taken out of the apartment.
  • At the stage of assembling a new system, a PVC pipe is immediately mounted, going from the toilet drain to the prefabricated cast-iron tee with a diameter of 100 mm.

And only after that, drain pipes are inserted into it, extending from sinks and baths (their diameter usually does not exceed 50 mm).

Difficulties with the installation of drain channels do not arise. When it is carried out, the smooth end of the plastic pipe is inserted into the receiving socket, the open part of which "looks" in the direction opposite to the direction of the drain.

At the end of the work, the pneumatic plug is removed from the revision, then the joint is sealed with a sealant suitable for this purpose. In some designs, it is enough to block it with a tightly screwed lid.

Replacement of fan pipes

A few words - about replacing the fan pipes used to block the spread of unpleasant odors around the apartment. With their help, the sewer riser is connected through channels built into the walls with the street. They are mounted vertically, but their angular location within the workspace is also common.

Replacement of old steel pipes

Often in our apartments, replacement of water pipes is required, since most of the old ones have been standing since the commissioning of the house, and this is decades of service! Usually it is a metal water pipe, which today no longer meets all the standards and requirements, as it cannot provide the proper water quality, safety, and ease of use.

Increasingly, plastic pipes are being used, which are not only more durable and stronger, but also easier to install and maintain. Such plumbing can be easily installed with your own hands in just a couple of hours.

In order to replace pipes, you do not need to have special knowledge or expensive equipment: polypropylene pipes, special fittings and other simple tools can be bought at any hardware store.

Such a replacement can be carried out not only with the help of metal-plastic ones, they have shown themselves well, but their cost is quite high, so the installation of plastic ones is increasingly being preferred.

From metal to polypropylene

Today, four types of water pipes are used for installation in apartments, including:

Elements for metal-plastic water pipes: 1 - adapter; 2 - square; 3 - elbow connection; 4 - tee; 5 - union nut; 6 - fitting; 7 - valve; 8 - metal-plastic pipes.

  1. Metal, having a different diameter. It can be steel, cast iron, galvanized water pipes. Pros - strength, reliability, long service life. But there are numerous disadvantages, among which it should be noted: the complexity of installation (it is necessary to cut threads, use a welding machine to connect pipes), the walls are covered with rust and plaque from the inside. In order to crash into a water pipe, you must have the appropriate skills. In addition, the metal requires careful maintenance, constant checking for leaks, painting.
  2. Copper pipes are more reliable, replacing water pipes with copper can increase reliability and durability, in addition, copper is very aesthetic and looks great in any bathroom. But even here there are drawbacks: in order to replace copper pipes, you need to have special skills, the cost of products is very high, stray currents may occur.
  3. Plastic pipelines are easy to install, they are reliable, durable, they can be connected to ordinary metal ones, but at the attachment points, due to sudden temperature changes, they can begin to leak, so the connection method using special welding is often recommended.
  4. Polypropylene are considered the best option when installing plumbing in an apartment. Polypropylene is a very reliable material, withstands temperature extremes, and the connection method is simple and reliable. Polypropylene pipes are used for cold, hot water supply, heating, sewerage. The diameter can be different, so it is very easy to select them, and the cost is affordable.

Materials and equipment will need the following:

Replacing polypropylene water pipes is simple, but you should prepare everything you need for work in advance. Today, several ways of laying are offered. Depending on the choice of a specific method, the set of equipment also differs:

  • pipe cutter (cutting scissors);
  • pipe bender (to give the plumbing the necessary shape);
  • soldering iron and nozzles (for hot, so-called diffuser welding);
  • calibration scan (when using the press method);
  • press tongs (for the press method);
  • glue, building level, sandpaper, nozzles for any diameter for a soldering iron, fittings, couplings, adapters and more.

Methods for replacing old pipes

  1. Cold welding of plastic pipelines involves processing the inner surface of one pipe, after which a special adhesive composition is applied to the end of the other. It only takes 15-20 seconds to bond. Such plumbing installation is considered the easiest, anyone can do it.
  2. Press fittings provide a more secure connection. For fastening, a pipe is put on the press fitting, the crimp sleeve is pressed with special tongs. The work is done very quickly, it is only necessary to select the fittings of the desired size and diameter. Additional sealing is only necessary when connecting to mixers and metal pipes.
  3. Hot welding is carried out using a soldering iron, while the seams become monolithic, such a connection is the most reliable, but often requires the presence of a specialist.

What should I pay attention to before replacing steel pipes?

When replacing the plumbing in the apartment, you must pay attention to the following:

  • whether replacement of water consumption meters is required or polypropylene pipes are simply laid;
  • what material the pipes will be laid from (plastic, metal, copper), what installation method is chosen, what pipe diameter is required;
  • which inlet taps are installed on the riser (valves to shut off the water);
  • what tools are needed for laying pipes in an apartment (depending on the material).

Often the quality of water in our taps leaves much to be desired. To ensure higher water quality, coarse and fine filters are used. Such filters help to extend the life of steel and plastic pipes by cleaning their inner surface from rust, silt and other things.

Such filters are placed at the inlets, before installing plastic and other pipes. With such an installation, it is necessary to foresee what diameter the pipes will be, what connecting elements are necessary for this.

Cost of work: calculation example

Before changing the pipes in the apartment, it is necessary to correctly calculate all the costs that will be spent on such plumbing work. We offer a calculation for replacing pipes in a typical apartment, which includes the cost of dismantling old metal pipes, purchasing new ones, and installing them:

  • replace the wiring from the inlet taps - 5000-5500 rubles;
  • replace the riser - from 1800 rubles;
  • replace existing pipes from inlet taps, install water meters - from 7,500 rubles;
  • replace the hot water riser and heated towel rail - from 4500 rubles.

Carrying out plumbing work in an apartment is a rather responsible, difficult task, which, however, can be done with your own hands. Often this is a simple replacement of old metal pipes with new and reliable plastic ones, installation of meters, water filters. It is best to trust professionals in this matter, but modern plastic pipes, unlike traditional steel pipes, are not only of high quality, but are also easy to install even by a person who has no experience in such repairs.

The replacement of pipes in an apartment must begin with the planning of work, and for this it is necessary to determine which pipes need to be replaced: gas, sewer, hot or cold water pipes.

The calculation of the price is best done by a specialist, who can be attracted by using the services of a construction company, and only after the calculation has been carried out it will be possible to start planning based on their capabilities.

As part of the informational article, the analysis of prices for materials will not be carried out, in addition, these prices have regional characteristics.

It is better to repair pipes with the involvement of professionals, but you can do it on your own, since the offer of pipes and various connections in the trade is quite extensive.

Replacement of water pipes.

Below will be considered troubleshooting options for the water supply system using various types of pipes.

Polypropylene pipes.

The reason for replacing pipes is most often the influence of time on them, which is expressed in the deposits of mineral salts on the inner surface of the pipes and the gradual depressurization of the joints. Leaks and contaminated water are reason enough to replace pipes. It is better to start work in the kitchen and bathroom, where it is better to use polypropylene products to replace hot and cold water pipes. These pipes are noticeably different in quality from metal ones, due to flexibility, durability and strength.

The connection of polypropylene pipes should not scare you - it does not require the use of specialized equipment. In addition, with a correct and neat connection, the pipes will no longer be released from the couplings, and there will be no leakage problems. Polypropylene pipes can be hidden in the wall, improving the interior of the bathroom. You can remove the endings from the wall directly at the installation site of the mixer, but this option can create difficulties later.

Metal pipes.

The easiest installation of a water supply system is to use metal-plastic pipes, for the installation of which fittings are used.

Cutting is done with a hacksaw, but burrs remain at the ends of the pipes. It is better to use scissors specially designed for this purpose, leaving an even and smooth cut.

Before starting work, make sure that the shut-off valves or taps are closed. If, when closed, these taps let water into the pipes, then you should postpone work with pipes and start replacing the taps. The most convenient option that you should take care of in advance is to think over the location of the taps, which allows you to shut off the supply to each of the objects separately. You should sketch out a diagram of the water supply system in the apartment and designate these taps, turns and connections on it. This will allow in the future not to turn off the water supply throughout the riser or house, if minor repairs are necessary, and to navigate well in the apartment's plumbing system.

Galvanized pipes.

Replacing hot and cold water risers can be done using a galvanized pipe. One of the joints will be located in a neighboring apartment. It is not worth attaching a polypropylene pipe to such a riser, this is a risky decision. It is necessary to cut the pipes exactly in a perpendicular plane, and then chamfer with a knife. The fitting is prepared in advance. The pipe should be inserted into it as tightly as possible, this will give maximum tightness of the connection. After installing the pipe, put on the fitting nut and tighten it until the pipe is tightly compressed.

PVC pipes.

Installation of PVC pipes is carried out using simple tools: a knife, a hacksaw, sandpaper and specialized glue. After a precise perpendicular cut, the edge of the pipe is processed with a knife and sandpaper until a smooth surface is obtained, blown and thoroughly dried. After removing moisture, the pipe should be degreased, lubricated with glue and firmly inserted into the fitting. For a better connection, the pipe, at the same time, is turned a quarter of a turn, and then fixed for half a minute. The glue dries in about a minute, but options are possible here, you should study the instructions for the glue. The further quality of the work of the entire water supply system depends on the quality of the glue and its proper handling.

Copper pipes.

The most difficult type of work is the installation of copper pipes. Professionals prefer to use copper soldering, but this is a complex process that requires special skills. It is possible to connect these pipes with a fitting, having previously carried out all the above operations: cutting, stripping and drying. After deburring and chamfering, a ring from a pre-disassembled fitting and a nut is put on the pipe. Tighten the fitting nut tightly with a wrench of the correct size!

Replacement of heating pipes.

When replacing heating pipes, actions are performed according to the already described scheme, but you should be more careful about the choice of pipes, since polypropylene water pipes cannot withstand the temperature of the coolant for a long time. Suitable metal, copper or pipes made of special heat-resistant plastic. The difference during installation is that copper and iron pipes cannot be connected with a fitting; soldering on copper or metal welding is necessary. When changing heating pipes, radiators should also be replaced immediately, and here you can also choose from many offers, but today cast-iron radiators are the most common and reliable. For aesthetic reasons, you can choose a model that is built into the walls so that the heating system is no longer visible. It is possible to install special radiators with boxes made of wood, which fit well into the interior.

Replacement of sewer pipes.

For the installation of the sewage system, plastic pipes are used, the diameter of which must ensure a good flow of water. These pipes are easy to cut and connect, thanks to a huge number of different turns. The joints are sealed using rubber bands built into the turns, which must be coated with glue for better sealing. Silicone provides good protection against water leaks.

Replacing pipes in an apartment is a complex and time-consuming process, which is best done by a professional. However, after reading our article, you can perform it without outside help.

Hello dear reader! Nothing is eternal. . They are installed in every house and sooner or later cease to satisfy us in every house. In this article, we will try to tell you when replacement of heating pipes is required, and introduce you to the technology of work.

Traditional heating systems made of steel pipes are becoming obsolete not only morally.

The main disadvantages of such systems are:

  • the tendency of steel and cast iron to corrode - after many years of operation, leakage from pipelines may occur;
  • "Overgrowing" with calcium salts and a significant decrease in efficiency, clogging of radiators with rust;
  • the inability to shut off the radiator or heating system in one room - it is necessary to turn off the entire riser in an apartment building or a completely private house;
  • inability to bleed air from the batteries in the apartment.

Old wiring is often not done according to the design, or the design was not well thought out - and as a result, the room is cold. The presence of air in the coolant also creates inconvenience in the form of cold radiators and noisy risers.

When is the best time to change the system?

The ideal time to replace heating is summer. There is no coolant in the system and neighbors in an apartment building will not complain. There is time to think, purchase materials and carefully and without haste to complete the work.

But if a leak occurs, and the repair of heating pipes in the apartment is impossible or inefficient (it is impossible to close multiple rusted places with clamps), then there is nowhere to go - we change it at any time of the year.

What to replace?

The choice of types of pipes for heating. Below are their characteristics:

  1. steel (ordinary carbon steel). Inexpensive, but prone to corrosion, overgrowing with calcium salts; pipes are connected by welding - a welding unit and a welder are required. Metal spatter during welding can spoil any repair - and it is not always possible to completely close the floor and walls at the place of metal welding;
  2. galvanized. Galvanization does not rust for many years, then it behaves like a pipe made of ordinary steel. The disadvantages are the same;
  3. stainless steel. Doesn't rust or grow. Pretty hard to weld. It has proven itself in private homes, but is not very appropriate in apartment buildings;
  4. copper. Durable, expensive, very difficult to assemble - not every specialist will perform tin soldering;
  5. stainless corrugated pipe. Doesn't rust or grow. Very flexible, which reduces the number of connections. Easy to cut and install. Assembled for fittings that require periodic inspection and maintenance (replacement of seals). It tolerates temperature fluctuations and pressure surges well. Does not withstand significant mechanical stress. Not the cheapest stuff.
  6. polypropylene pipes (PPR). Polypropylene is easy to mount and solder, bends well, does not rust, deforms little when heated, easily joins with metal through adapters. Inexpensive material;
  7. polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes. They do not rust, deform a little when heated, are easily soldered and assembled on fittings. Inexpensive material;
  8. metal-plastic. It has reinforcement made of aluminum tape, plastic - PVC or cross-linked polyethylene. Inexpensive and popular material. Mounted on special fittings, bend well, do not rust. They have a small thickness and low mechanical strength - there is a risk of damage. Withstand temperatures up to 95°C;
  9. pipes with a modified molecular system - pipes made of cross-linked polyethylene PEX. Withstand temperatures from -110 to +110 ° C, operating temperature - up to 95 ° C, are used for pipelines when working in conditions of negative temperatures. Very durable, bend well, do not rust, mounted with fittings.

In general, plastic and metal-plastic are the best option for replacing heating risers in apartments, since it makes no sense to install an expensive metal pipe in a single apartment, and no one guarantees that the house has engineering network grounding. In a country house, the choice of material is determined by personal preferences and financial capabilities.

Do-it-yourself installation

Tools and materials

To install the battery, you will need the following materials:

  • Radiator. The number of sections is the same as that of the previously standing cast-iron radiator. In a private house, the number of sections by room can be adjusted;
  • set of plugs (4 pcs.);
  • Mayevsky's faucet for air release, suitable for the thread diameter of the hole in the plug;
  • fixings with dowels;
  • coupling with external thread - for plastic pipes (MPH);
  • two valves for installing batteries (combined with a union nut (“American”)), while the diameter of the nut should be ½ ″, the diameter of the valve should match the hole in the plug. In a private house, an angle valve is usually required, in an apartment building - a straight one;
  • gaskets for plugs, for a valve and an American, for connecting battery sections (in general, for sizes ½ ″, ¾ ″, 40 mm or 1 ¾ ″. The best option is heat-resistant silicone or fluoroplastic, but some prefer hard paronite. Tape made of fluorocarbon material .

The materials for assembling the risers depend on the type of pipes: in any case, these will be pipes, bends, tees, plastic couplings and threaded adapter couplings; fixings with dowels; for metal - threads, union nuts or spurs, electrodes, solder. It should be taken into account that the maximum pressure in the system reaches 16 atmospheres (1.6 MPa), the temperature is up to 95°C. In any case, two valves are needed for each riser - so that you can turn off the heating in each room.

For a supply, a diameter of ½ ″ is usually chosen (for plastic 20 mm); The diameter of the new riser must be equal to the diameter of the existing risers.

Equipment and accessories:

  1. Bulgarian;
  2. electric drill;
  3. adjustable wrenches - 2 pcs.;
  4. pliers;
  5. die for threading metal pipes;
  6. special radiator key for assembling radiators;
  7. a soldering iron for plastic, for copper or a welding machine for steel pipes;
  8. tape measure and caliper.

Do not forget about glasses for working with the tool; canvas suit, gloves and a mask for a welder - safety precautions will help you save your health.

Reset risers

Before changing the heating in the apartment, it is necessary to reset the risers and shut them off (after coordinating their actions with the employees of the housing office). If possible, you should negotiate with your neighbors and replace the risers and plumbing in all apartments - from top to bottom. If it is not possible to agree, then you will have to cut the riser in your apartment.

In a private house it is easier - you need to turn off the heater, drain the system - and you can work.

Thread cutting

Heating appliances and pipes are dismantled using a grinder. The pipes at the top and bottom must be cut very carefully and evenly, then the threads are cut with a die, the MRV and the valve are screwed on for plastic; a brass valve is installed - for steel wiring.

Assembly

Radiators are sold in sections of 5 pieces, and before installation, you should assemble the sections into one large radiator of the right size using a radiator key, screw in the plugs, the Mayevsky faucet, and the valves.

Installation of radiators

First, the radiators are installed - the installation site is planned, folgoizol (foamed polyethylene with foil) is glued to the wall, fasteners are installed with the help of dowels and the radiator is hung.

Installation of risers

The location of the riser and the liner is marked. Plastic is cut into the desired size and soldered or assembled using fittings. The plastic is soldered to the valve, to the radiator it is connected through the MPH using a union nut on the valve.

Metal pipes are also cut, steel pipes are welded, external threads are cut at the ends. Then they are mounted with fasteners. To the existing riser, the new riser is attached to the valve using a shackle or union nut.

Threads are welded to the ends of the piping to the heating radiator and connected to radiator taps using a union nut. Valves allow you to shut off the hot water supply to each individual room. Corrugated pipe and copper are connected using special fittings.

Features of work in a private house: they usually change the entire system completely, the supply and return lines are laid along the floor in the fixtures.

Installation of the underfloor heating system is carried out during the overhaul of the floor - after all, the heating pipe is hidden in the screed. For this purpose, pipes made of cross-linked polyethylene and PVC are used. Pipes must be laid in a protective casing from another pipe, valves are also installed at the inlet and outlet.

Pressing and launch

Then pressure testing and start-up of the system are carried out. Crimping - filling the heating system with water or air under pressure. When performing work without the involvement of housing office workers, the method of filling with water is usually used as the only one available, although more risky. When filling with water at the extreme points of the system, air must be bled off. If during the pressure testing no installation defects - leaks were detected, the system is considered to be running. Found leaks should be eliminated and the pressure test should be repeated.

After starting the system, it is necessary to check for a few more days whether the system has become airy and bleed the air.

Common mistakes and problems

The most common errors in the installation of heating systems:

  • inconsistency with the project;
  • lack of Mayevsky cranes. Air enters the system due to poor operation of the pumps in the boiler room, it comes out dissolved in water - it needs to be bled periodically;
  • when pouring a warm floor with a screed, they do not check the tightness of the system;
  • flooded the floor heating system with a screed without filling it with water - as a result, the screed cracks;
  • poor-quality soldering and pipe welding can lead to leakage.
